Meet Office Manager Lisa Garton, a proud member of the Dot’s family—she has been with Dot’s Ace Hardware for a little over a year!
What’s your background/experience?
I’ve always worked retail/customer service, but never before in the hardware field. Growing up a mechanic’s daughter and spending most of my childhood under the hood of a car with my father, I had a little bit of hardware knowledge coming into this job. But every day here at Dot’s Ace Hardware has been a learning experience for me. Even though my job as office manager keeps me in the back in my office most of the time, I still try to spend as much time as I can out on the sales floor helping customers!
What makes Dots unique, to me, is the environment. We are not just a hardware store. Here at Dot’s, we are a family. And we treat every single person who walks through our doors as family as well!
What’s your favorite thing about working for Dot’s?
There are so many things that I love about working at Dot’s, but my favorite would definitely have to be all the great people I get to meet every day!
What’s something about Dot’s that most of your customers may not know?
We are PET FRIENDLY! And now, not only can your fur-baby help you shop, but they can also shop for themselves in our new pet section! Everyone I work with knows how much I love animals, dogs especially, and every time a dog comes in the store everyone makes sure to let me know! My boss sometimes tells me that I get more excited over seeing a dog come in the store than I do the person, but I disagree. To me, animals are human too, and should be treated as such. I greet every dog that comes in the store by name (because there isn’t a dog that comes in that I’m not on a first name basis with!) just as I do the customer. There are even some customers who, when they come in with their dog, they just hand them over to me to entertain while they do their shopping! It just makes my day whenever I get to sit in the floor and play with a dog just like I’m at home! A lot of my “regulars”, like Marley, just run straight to me the minute they get in the store. Sometimes I think if dogs could talk, I’d never make a human friend again!
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I like do to many things, from catching a movie with friends, going on short little trips to unique towns, and antiquing, to just hanging out at the house with family.
Why do you think it’s important to support locally-owned businesses like Dot’s?
Compared to chain stores, locally-owned businesses give more back to the community. Supporting locally-owned businesses is such a great thing, because we care and understand more about the needs and wants of the community. We make decisions based on the feedback of the people!
Best burger in Texarkana?
Best burgers in Texarkana would definitely be Reggie’s!
My personal motto is, “to thine own self be true.” I was taught that a person should always be honest and stay true to their word. Throughout my life, I’ve made it an obligation to myself to live by that motto!
The next time you see Lisa, say hi (or bring a furry friend for her to play with while you shop)!
